Phillip Phillips met the press during the American Idol 11 Live Tour rehearsals in Los Angeles on Wednesday. Joshua Ledet, Heejun Hanand the other finalists serenaded him with “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction of The X Factor.
Looking forward to the tour, he admitted that he hasn’t had much chance to rehearse yet, but said:
“It’s gonna be fun. I’m going to treat it like I did the show–just make sure every night when I go out there that it’s fun first, and make sure the crowd feels that.”
(Sadly, he clarified that there will be no marching band joining him for “Home.”) Phillip also revealed that his debut album is tentatively scheduled for a November release.
Phillips’ coronation track Home climbed to the top of the charts quickly after he was crowned the new idol, but fans shouldn’t expect his future music to sound like the song.
“It’s not going to be too much like Home, it’s gonna be a little bit more rock, have more edge to it, so I’m excited,” Phillips told Celebuzz. “I’ve been writing, I’m really excited.”
“America couldn’t have gone wrong with a winner from ‘American Idol’ this season, but Phillip has been to hell and back to get it, so I’m really proud of him,” Dixon, 20, told Celebuzz. “His attitude too– he’s never going to let you know he’s hurting.”
Skylar Laine, 18, who placed fifth this season, said: “He’s on the road to recovery and we’re really proud of him.”
Philip Philips also talks with Rumor Fix about being on bed resting and recovering after his kidney surgery, about that he wrote a song with David Ryan Harris, how he wants to write with Rob Thomas, that he never been to Canada but wants to go, about his three must haves on the bus tour, about him wanting Kate Beckinsale to replace Jennifer Lopez if he gets to choose.
