Phillip Phillips performs at Outlets at Anthem Tree Lighting 2012

During a 40-minute performance on Saturday night, Nov. 17, in Anthem,  Phillip Phillips showed why he’s poised to be one of the most successful products of a reality show competition.

He sang several songs from his debut album, “The World From the Side of the Moon,” which will be released on Monday, Nov. 19, including “Home,” which, as one would imagine, inspired an audience singalong. And through it all, he showed that he’s less of a product and more of a musician.

Talking before the set, Phillips, who wrote or co-wrote all but two of the tracks on “The World From the Side of the Moon,” said, “If I’d have just been handed some songs, I probably wouldn’t have had an album. I like to have an input on songs and (the record label) really respected that.”

“We’re getting more of the musicians back in the limelight like it was in the ’70s and ’90s,” Phillips said. “That’s such a good thing. I love listening to that.”
